The horticultural show Freudenstadt and Baiersbronn 2025 is defined by a very diverse and lively Forbach Valley, which has always connected the two communities and is now being revitalized.

With the help of a generous widening of the valley by clearing selected forest areas and a continuous, barrier-free path concept, this connection can be experienced for the first time. New stretches of path with sensible additions and defused bottlenecks promise all road users a route that is safe to walk and drive on. Cross-connections, which depart from the main paths in the valley, integrate external highlights and thus create a link to the surrounding area. The improved path concept with circular paths in various degrees of difficulty/mobility levels enhances life and experience in the valley and is thus attractive for the village community as well as for tourism. The existing differences in altitude are overcome barrier-free by ramp systems and a cable car, creating inviting valley ascents and descents.

The relatively large distances in the 8 km long valley is met by a mobility network with five mobility hubs, which receives visitors by train, bus, (e-)bikes and MIV and leads them through the valley. In addition, a tight shuttle network along the valley road offers further entry and exit points without hindering pedestrians and cyclists. The mobility behaviour can thus be changed spontaneously and flexibly and generally be encouraged to move.

Thanks to its versatile nature and landscape with lakes, wet meadows, natural stream course, forests and rough pastures on the slopes, which can be experienced even more closely thanks to the link through the valley, the Forbach Valley can create an awareness of nature and landscape spaces and provide information in this regard. The planting of new orchards and streamside shrubs, the creation and maintenance of species-rich flower meadows and streamside meadows increase biodiversity. The passability of the Forbach for fish and other aquatic life, for example through the construction of fish ladders, also contributes to this.

The history that connects the two cities can be made tangible by integrating existing witnesses to industrial history or the mines into the new network of paths: Old, vacant existing buildings are upgraded and given new functions, existing trade is integrated in the form of experience industry. Visitors and locals are encouraged to inform themselves about the local businesses and to become active.

Orientation within the Forbach Valley is provided not only by three vertical landmarks in the form of lookout towers, but also by three horizontal highlights: Terraces, from which visual relationships within the respective garden showcase focal points are made possible. Arches as a recurring element along the main path and at the entry points into the valley, complement these as an identity-forming element. They symbolize mining, the timber industry and the region

(shingles), form archways and point the way.

During the garden show, there is the possibility of repeatedly designating fenced garden show areas in the course of the Forbach Valley, which incorporate the main themes of the valley and link them to the classic garden show themes.

In the future, the Forbach Valley will function with its independent identity as a "connecting valley". An equivalent tourist added value for both communities also results from the integration and expansion of existing theme trails in the already existing hiking network.

Thanks to the flexibly adapting mobility concept, the Forbachtal is in the future extensively developed and despite immense differences in altitude to a large extent low barrier, partially barrier-free walkable.

All planned temporary plants for a horticultural show such as stage and exhibition areas, plantings as well as temporary parking lots, can be realized well, can be converted in the permanent plant simplified or be deconstructed. Lasting interferences, which consider aspects of the environmental compatibility as well as ecological requirements create a high performance green connection, which promise a durable animation and reactivation of the Forbachtals not only during the horticultural show, but also far beyond that.

Tourists, who arrive with the car, bus or the shuttle and begin the horticultural show in Freudenstadt, are led on a parking lot, which is east of the former outdoor swimming pool with the Langenwaldsee. There bicycles are lent, an info. point is located and with floral elements the first entrance point to the horticultural show is made recognizable. The Forbach, which flows under a bridge structure under the B37, will be upgraded and access to the water created by seating steps and boulders. Also beyond the horticultural show an attractive starting point for migrations develops in and around the Forbachtal.

About a footbridge, which leads on the higher convenient road and this by means of a pedestrian traffic light to cross lets, reach pedestrians as well as cyclists on a way, which leads off the federal highway to the north into the valley.

New Streuobstwiesen line the slopes on the way downhill, which let the valley appear brighter and wider by the withdrawal of the forest. The resulting rough pastures also provide habitat for many different creatures and therefore species richness. In order to provide different views of and into the valley, the trail quickly divides here into the Talweg and Panoramaweg, both of which lead continuously all the way to Baiersbronn, allowing circular routes and crossing each other now and then. On the way to Christophstal you experience the first highlights. Path accompanying wild rose hedges take up the theme of the Kienberg and lead to an open farm with petting zoo and glass production, which makes agriculture tangible.

Visitors who have taken the shuttle from the parking lot at the Langenwaldsee through the valley, arrive with the first stop at the central arrival place below Freudenstadt. This is opposite the former valley inn on the right side of the Forbach and forms the start of the Christophstal garden show. The banks of the Forbach can be experienced and the impressive barrage is clearly visible. An exciting path along the canal leads over a small footbridge directly into the area of the cloth factory. Here several ways lead to the Bärenschlössle, the game enclosure and into first fenced garden show areas, which can be played with typical garden show topics.

The new cultural center cloth factory offers a rich offer of regional products, experiencable handicraft, small manufactories and social uses, which can remain beyond the garden show.

From here it is only a stone's throw to the valley station of the cable car, which leads directly to the Adlerterrasse and connects the 'world's largest market place' in Freudenstadt, as a second entry point to the horticultural show and in the future with the valley barrier-free.

Entrance point Freudenstadt - Forbachtal

Tourists arriving by public transport or parking their vehicle at the Freudenstadt city train station can orientate themselves here at the info point and have the option to change to bike or shuttle. Pedestrians will be directed via the upgraded station square to Forststraße and the pedestrian zone. There the garden show can already begin in the city. Above-ground parking on the market square will disappear, coaches will be given an alternative parking space - thus healing the 'green symmetry' on the market square. A uniform pavement/urban carpet connects and favours pedestrians, who will be guided via upgraded streets from the Market Square to the 'new' Eagle Terrace. In addition to a picturesque view of the Forbach Valley, there is also a cable car from here that leads barrier-free into the valley. This is supplemented by a path connection of serpentines of even gradient.

Going further north, the landmark / observation tower at the Boschenloch is visible from afar on the western side of the valley, opposite orchards line the slope. Gastronomically you are spoiled in the inn 'Zum Bad' and a nature experience room offers the possibility to play close to nature. The panorama path continues elevated, towards the Dorothea gallery, with information about the mines that are no longer in operation and offers beautiful views of the valley from there. On the valley path, visitors reach, on the opposite bank, the existing

fish breeding ponds, which are made experiencable and accessible. A water access at the brook invites on the bank meadow to the barefoot running, water wandering and Forbach experience. A new water playground reproduces the historical watercourse at the Silberschmelze.

The Platzmeisterhaus as museum with small catering trade is ideal resting place, after the horticultural show also for cyclists. For self-brought food there is only a small piece further north at the existing playground with Bolzwiese a picnic place directly at the Forbach. Over the Finkenwiese the valley way leads further to the lakes at the Fischerhütte in Friedrichstal. There again fish farming can be experienced at close quarters and there is the possibility of fishing. Smaller paths and boardwalks to explore the landscape around the lakes and observe nature connect directly to the cattle pastures located on the slope. The fishing lodge itself offers a gastronomic offer and the direct marketing of smoked fish, nearby is a rental station for bicycles and an Infopoint.

In the east above Friedrichstal at the mine Untere Sophia shows another landmark with the impression of a mine tunnel. It marks the play and experience field mining. Smaller paths lead across meadows and floodplains along the valley path to SHW, where the visitor is brought close to living industry. The existing playground Friedrichtals is upgraded and supplemented.

Connection S-BHF Friedrichstal- Forbachtal

The relocation of the B 462 behind the station creates a crossing-free connection to the center of Friedrichstal. The valley comes to the railway and receives a "station in the green", with a viewing terrace and attractive, barrier-free access to the valley. The second arrival point in the Forbachtal is reached here, the industrial square on the SHW site. As a mobility hub, where visitors arrive by bus or train or shuttle, there is the possibility of renting bikes or exploring the Forbachtal (further) on foot.

In the area of the sports field, centrally for both cities, the large festival stage will be temporarily located during the garden show. By the reorganization of the station Friedrichstal it is outstandingly attached to the public transport. Around it, apart from the high quality of the nature experience areas, various garden show topics are stored in a fenced area.

The Forbach is freed here from its corset: it shows itself as a broad course, with flood meadows and retention areas. Boardwalks, wooden terraces lead past floodplain forest protection zones and reed beds, offering opportunities for nature observation. Further orchard meadows adorn the western slope of the Forbach valley and extend into Baiersbronn. A bridge leads from the valley path to the Forge Museum Königshammer, which receives an appropriate apron / museum in the open.

Along the western bank of the Forbach lead valley and panoramic path merged over meadows and floodplains to the Backhäusle. Before the building of the Schindele GmbH the panorama way separates and rises again. The valley path runs as a wide industrial footbridge between the brook and the canal and thus reduces possible conflict potential between cyclists and pedestrians, the view to the opposite bank side is cut free. A new bridge will create a path connection to the riverbank road. The adjacent wood storage area brings visitors closer to wood processing, a wood art place (e.g. carving, exhibitions, wood encyclopedia,... ) can be accommodated here. Further views of the industry arise along the cardboard factory from balconies.

A forest edge playground on the Panorama Trail invites visitors to explore the forest, while the valley trail leads along pastures in the Stöckerwiesen to Baiersbronn.

Visitors who arrive via Baiersbronn's main station can do so by train, MIV, bus, train, shuttle or bike and change to the means of transport of their choice at the affiliated mobility hub.

With the rearrangement of the station area, Baiersbronn receives a new, attractive town arrival, and, without crossing the railway tracks, connects via the Stöckerwiesen to the Garden Show and, in the future, the Forbachtal. With the freely accessible prospect terrace at the Stöckerlodge in station proximity, with small catering trade range, a view relation to the Forbachtal is produced.

The existing allotment garden plantation along the rails on the Stöckerwiesen is extended for the horticultural show and integrated with topics to flower, fruit and vegetable cultivation into the horticultural show. Show areas to topics such as environment, ecological connections and nature household, are attached in the course of the Forbach and on the forest and meadow surfaces of the Stöckerkopfs. The garden show visitor receives not only insights to topics of the forest and wood economy by the resident wood-processing industrial enterprises, but receive also view of natural grazing, Schauschäferei, ... and their landscape-promoting meaning.

A new road leads over the Stöckerwiesen into the Sankenbachtal, whereby the Sankenbachstraße is relieved. The local characteristic green fingers reaching into the village remain, there is only a widening of existing tree and green structures to direct the view and visitors in the direction of the Forbach Valley. The connection to the village centre succeeds via the promenade of the Freudenstädter Straße up to the Schelklewiesen. At the same time, the Panoramaweg runs via the Alte Mühle (old mill) through the valley to the Rosenplatz (rose square). Intra-local green spaces and squares will be upgraded and integrated into the exhibition concept with floral elements, garden markets and other events.

The Schelklewiesen already offer an attractive playground for children and young people of all ages and expand the offer by a new pond with attached café.

The mouth of the Forbach will be staged as a meeting place for all, the bank made experiencable. The parking area for mobile homes will be relocated to the meadow with a view of the Rinkenberg and the lookout tower there, creating an inviting, natural atmosphere, with good public transport connections at the same time.

The final mobility hub is located at the Schulzentrum S-Bahn station in Baiersbronn, where the existing, asphalted area can be used as a temporary car park. Here, too, there is an offer to switch between the means of transport MIV, train, bus, shuttle and bike.
