The Nordpark with the Standtanger in Braunschweig's Nordstadt district is designed as a public park with sports and leisure facilities for different user groups.
An existing green fringe of trees and shrubs closes off the approximately 3-hectare area to the existing buildings to the south.
The entire Nordpark has a similar design language in common, which is particularly evident in the respective entrance areas. The entrances are characterized by a recurring planting of ornamental shrubs as decorative solitary plants and native columnar trees, which are underplanted with small shrubs, wild perennials and grasses. Robust concrete walls, which reflect the industrial character of the site, mark the transition from the street to the park space.
The park is divided into two intensive areas to the east and west, which are discreetly supplemented by small niches as recreational areas. The youth square is located at the eastern entrance in the field of vision of the existing pedestrian bridge. Protected by a dense grove of trees, the approximately 4.00 m high toboggan hill forms the focal point and attraction in the park. Opposite the old bridge, which is to be accentuated as an industrial relic and illuminated as a "blue gate", the topographical formulations create exciting visual relationships within the park, which are staged by a grandstand on the north-eastern slope side of the hill. The eastern end of the hill is formed by an approximately 3.50m high bastion. On the one hand, it provides an additional, expansive view over the park and, on the other, forms the upper end of a bouldering wall. This runs along the north and east walls of the bastion and is part of the multi-purpose play and activity landscape of the youth square. A fitness parkour on synthetic fall protection, a streetball field and a pump track facility with trail elements, each made of asphalt surfaces, round off the leisure and sports facilities.
The green center forms the vegetative counterpart to the activity areas and connects to a potential expansion area northeast of the entrance. The second intensively usable park area is located at the Entree West. Here there is a playground that offers play and exercise opportunities for children up to the age of twelve under the "Dragonland" theme. Protected by the existing tree and shrub planting, the play area is divided into two sections: the play meadow with free play opportunities in the north and the sand play area with climbing and balancing equipment in the south.
