As a pilot project, which is the first measure to be implemented after the district was included in the "Socially Integrative City" urban development program, the renewal of the central square on Schollweg in Mühlenberg is playing a stimulating role. From a variety of different cultures and histories, Mühlenberg is coming together as a unit to form a diverse and international district. The image of constantly reassembling a multifaceted whole made up of different individual parts with strong characters was the starting point for the design of the new "Polygonien" play area.

Similar to the Chinese tangram puzzle (seven-board), in which complex figures and images are created from archetypal basic shapes, the playground and its play elements are also made up of a mosaic of clear individual parts, which when combined result in a versatile and identity-forming overall picture - "Polygonia".

In a participatory project, children can create colorful mosaics from pieces of tile that tell stories from their homeland. These mosaics also consist of simple polygons and are placed on the concrete seating blocks, where they tell stories of Mühlenberg culture for all to see.

The green frame of the playground will be preserved and supplemented by plantings, while barriers in the inner area will be removed to create a continuous, easily visible play area. The large slabs give the playground a clear design language and create the basis for a variety of running, catching and jumping games. The resulting polygons of surfaces combine like a mosaic to form play spheres and recreational areas and divide the space into three areas with different activity regions. Between the play areas there is a central square as a common recreation area and meeting point.
