As part of the renovation and new construction measures carried out in stages at the Kaiser Wilhelm and Ratsgymnasium in Hanover's Zooviertel district, the outdoor areas in front of the school, including the forecourt, bicycle shelter, inner courtyard and teachers' courtyard, were also redesigned.
The design sets a clear formal framework within which references to the curved design language of the 1950s building are taken up. The "paving wave" flows around the kidney-shaped island of trees in the forecourt and guides visitors into the building.
With its X-shaped beams, the bicycle shelter picks up on window elements of the old assembly hall and creates a playful change on the outside of the quarter with its wave-shaped roof. In the inner courtyard, a floral "carpet" is rolled out under the "wave bed". Rubber seating blocks can be moved freely in the courtyard to enable different uses and to function as a break area for the assembly hall. The outdoor facilities were designed to be completely barrier-free and form the prelude to the structural extension of the school.
