The school grounds of the Montessori school were redesigned following the completion of building construction work. The largely paved area was heavily used by the construction work, so that the entire area had to be restructured and the surfacing renewed.
In a school workshop, action requirements, wishes and ideas were worked out. The participants were particularly interested in sustainability, space allocation, rainwater decoupling and use and improving the microclimatic conditions through greening.
A total of approx. 3,200m² of sealed surface was unsealed in the planning. Subsequently, approx. 1800m² were unsealed with stone paving, grass liner slabs and fall protection surfaces. All landscaped areas are water-permeable.
A school garden was created on approx. 360m² as a future learning and living space. This includes 170 m² of flower meadow as well as sweet shrubs and a green classroom made from natural materials. A total of 4 infiltration areas with a total size of approx. 80m² and a tree trench with a volume of approx. 200m³ were created on the area. A total of 700m² of roof area will be discharged into these areas. The entire schoolyard area is unsealed due to the planned use of infiltration-capable paving and a base layer structure without a 0 component. To promote biodiversity and as part of climate adaptation, 14 new tree plantings and 150 new shrub plantings of native trees have been planned.
As part of the "Cool Schoolyards" funding program, particular emphasis was placed on making the schoolyard resilient to climate change and creating future learning and living spaces. This application was submitted in the course of LP3 by Hoff
