Generation park at the Balkspitz

The Balkspitz is a peninsula between the large Vils and the Vils flood channel at the end of the old town of Vilsbiburg. The peninsula was rather poorly connected to the town center by a bridge on the side facing away from the old town. The construction of a new pedestrian bridge on the old town side brings the recreational area closer to the town. The construction of the Generation Park on the Balkspitz enables versatile recreation close to the old town for all age groups.

With the help of a detailed analysis of the existing situation, a concept was developed that emphasizes the special features of the location and creates opportunities for play, sport and recreation in harmony with nature. For this purpose, a nature conservation mapping of the area was carried out in advance and the existing flora and fauna were specifically addressed.

By placing the play and sports facilities on the edge of the park, it was possible to preserve the large flowering meadows in the center of the park that characterize the landscape. The choice of play and equipment objects illustrates the change of perspective at Balkspitz. The peninsula not only offers a wonderful view of the old town, but also a view of and into nature. The visitor's gaze is specifically directed in different directions by various objects and their design. The collaboration with local wood artist Örni Poschmann plays a very important role here. The view of the river is sharpened by a pebble beach and a wooden deck by the water. A sunbathing lawn with wooden loungers draws the eye to the sky and the expansive canopy of the weeping willow. A wooden sculpture in the shape of two fish bones offers various lounging options and different perspectives of the surroundings. Visitors can retreat into the willow bird's nest and watch the action from outside.

A climbing forest is being created under the trees to the south, where children can train their sense of balance together with their grandparents. The climbing facility with lookout is for older children. A ball track system with three ball tracks offers fun for the whole family.

The Balkspitz can be used as an event venue with a temporary stage thanks to the construction of a gravel lawn at the Spitz. The adjacent, species-poor meadow can be used as a picnic and leisure meadow in a variety of ways.

An elaborate fitness concept with a fitness hotspot and a running track with integrated fitness stations in accordance with a health insurance provider offers various ways to keep fit.
