The characteristic location of the city of Jena in the valley of the middle Saale has always been a scenic feature that gives the city a defining image. However, due to changing uses and a lack of links, the Saale has disappeared from view in recent decades. In order to give the area between the city centre and the Saale a strong development boost, the city of Jena decided to apply to host the 3rd Thuringian State Garden Show in 2013. For this application, a number of already planned projects were coordinated in terms of content and combined in an integrative planning. In addition to the content and area-related conception, the study includes financing, marketing and tourism concepts.
