Redesign of the Salmon Creek estuary by removing the old concrete channel and creating a nearshore waterbed while maintaining the protection of the pier.

The dilapidated concrete channel had to be removed for safety reasons. The Flensburg Technical Operations Centre, as the client for the implementation of the WFD, decided on a near-natural expansion of the estuary area while maintaining the stability of the pier. At the end of summer 2018, the implementation could take place due to the persistent drought at extremely low water levels of the watercourse. The course of the watercourse was steered away from the pier and maintained in its current course through new stone placement and fill, as well as the relocation of the existing boulders.
Bottom material was essentially relocated. Only minor gravel 0/2 was placed on top. No seeding of turf occurred. On the basis of the LBP the surfaces, which border all on landscape protection area as well as on the water on FFH area, were left to the succession.
Since the largest rearrangements of material by the influence of the fjord, thus on the sea side take place, will have to be observed whether the desired course can be held away from the sea bridge.
