Mercado Shopping Center Hamburg
New planting of the planting beds in the area of the parking deck areas

The owner of the Mercado Center in Hamburg-Ottensen (Union Investment Real Estate) planned in 2017 a partial renovation of the external parking roof areas (2 floors) including the planting basins located on them. These were to receive a new structure with protective layers/drainage, granulate/soil and planting after the planned concrete and impermeability repair.
In the concrete planting basins, individual raised beds of different sizes made of Corten steel were placed, in which umbrella-shaped specimen trees - copper rock pear (Amelanchier lamarckkii) and fan maple (Acer palmatum) - were planted. These are not only visible from the parking deck, but also from the interior of the shopping center and are an eye-catcher.
An extensive underplanting with shade-tolerant grasses and ferns together with the specimen trees form a harmonious and lively overall picture.
The planting areas are automatically irrigated via a newly manufactured sprinkler system.
