The monastery landscape Heisterbach is a product of Cistercian activity and romantic reception of the monastery ruins on the one hand and the biogeographical foundations on the other. From the historical interaction of the Cistercians in the late Middle Ages and Baroque and the Enlightenment approaches of the Count of Lippe, the landscape park has developed into a place
with special charisma. The plans for the monastery landscape Heisterbach work out project modules on the basis of a historical analysis and an inventory analysis, which are realized in the context of a landscape exhibition: Siebengebirge. The project is part of a qualification strategy for the cultural landscape Siebengebirge in the context of the Regionale 2010 Cologne/Bonn.
In the first realisation phase, the upgrading of the monastery landscape intra muros and the immediate surroundings extra muros will be implemented structurally until 2010. Part of the structural upgrading is the redesign of the entrance area with baroque gatehouse, the former farmyard, the Pleasure Ground and the 19th century tree garden as well as a watercourse planning taking into account the medieval Cistercian water art. The project is being implemented in close coordination with the preservation of historical monuments and archaeological sites, as well as with the nature conservation authorities involved, in order to take account of the special historical significance of the site and its location in the nature reserve and planned Siebengebirge National Park.
