The perception of a town or village image is essentially determined by its center or old town core and the area of the town and village edges, i.e. the transitions from landscape to settlement.
It is precisely these areas that have long been subject to considerable pressure to change, with lasting effects on the appearance of the town center, our landscapes and settlements, and determine the attractiveness of the quality of life and living in people's immediate surroundings on a daily basis. The primary goal must therefore be to preserve, restore and further develop the qualities that still exist.

With the design manual, Echterdingen wants to meet this requirement and is thus presenting a basic design concept, in particular for its 'historic center', which should serve as a basis and guideline for further in-depth planning, in addition to the urban development framework plan. The aim must be to always keep the big picture in mind. Quality - right from the start.
