The redesign of Landwehrplatz encompasses the area between the western, northern and eastern edges of the square up to the edge of the platform on Großherzog-Friedrich-Straße, as well as the street space in the direction of Max-Ophüls-Platz up to the interface between the old building and the new Otto-Hahn-Gymnasium. Rothenbergstraße and Bruchwiesenstraße will continue to be treated as access areas, retaining their street character. In addition to the built spatial edges, the trees, i.e. the handling of existing trees and new tree plantings, are used as an effective element of spatial design.

Landwehrplatz is divided into 2 sub-areas:

An open, use-neutral square area in front of the fire station and the Otto-Hahn-Gymnasium (traffic-free) and a tree-covered square area (parking spaces) along Bruchwiesenstraße. The urban axis is taken up as a continuation of Rotenbergstrasse. A roof structure runs parallel to Großherzog-Friedrich-Strasse as a boundary and to increase the quality of stay while at the same time allowing the square to be experienced (urban space quality) from the street. By reducing the number of bus stops and concentrating them in connection with the Saarbahn stop, the roof takes on the functions of a colonnade and bus stop.
